Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center
Course openings, satsang, and what happens week to week at the centre in Tây Hồ.
Course openings, festival retreats, visiting teachers, workshops, and any change to the weekly timetable.
The centre runs on a rhythm rather than a calendar of one-off events: the same classes each week, beginner courses opening each month, satsang twice a week. Most of what is worth knowing is that rhythm, so it is set out below.
18:30 to 20:00, and free to attend.
Satsang is meditation, chanting and a talk — an hour and a half that asks nothing of you beforehand. No mat, no experience, no booking. People come after work, sit at the back, and leave when it ends.
It is the easiest way to see the centre without committing to a class.
Twelve sessions, three a week, finished in four weeks. Four intakes run each month so that one of them fits most working weeks:
Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings, 18:30 – 20:00. Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, 06:00 – 07:30. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday mid-mornings, 09:30 – 11:00. Weekends, Saturday and Sunday afternoons, 15:30 – 17:00.
The course works from the basic postures towards the harder ones, with theory sessions on Swami Vishnudevananda's five points of yoga in between. That combination — practice and the reasoning behind it — is what separates a Sivananda course from a set of classes.
The trial class is free, and there is no obligation after it. Come to any all-levels class on the timetable, or to a satsang if you would rather watch first.
Arrive ten minutes early, practise on an empty stomach, and bring something warm for the final relaxation.
Facebook at facebook.com/sivanandahanoi carries the schedule changes and the photographs from each course. The centre's YouTube channel has recorded talks and chanting.
