Vedanta and Silence

Introduction

Vedanta Philosophy & Silent Meditation is a nine-day immersive course designed exclusively for graduates of the Sivananda Yoga Teachers’ Training Course. Guided directly by Swami Sitaramananda, the course offers a unique opportunity to deepen one’s understanding of Vedanta philosophy while engaging in a profound practice of silence, meditation, and inner reflection.

Through a balanced combination of scriptural study, yogic practices, meditation, and self-inquiry, participants are guided to quiet the mind and turn inward. The course creates a supportive environment for contemplation and experiential learning, allowing students to deepen both their intellectual understanding and personal experience of Vedanta. It is a transformative journey for those who sincerely wish to deepen their sadhana, continue on the path of yoga, and connect more deeply with their True Nature.

Meditation and inner silence

Curriculum

Mouna — Practice of Silence

Mouna is the discipline of maintaining silence not only in speech, but also in action and thought. Through the practice of silence, participants learn to observe and gradually calm the fluctuations of the mind, creating inner space for deeper awareness, contemplation, and insight.

Scriptural Study

Participants will study Viveka Chudamani (“The Crest Jewel of Discrimination”), the classical Vedantic text composed by Adi Shankaracharya. Under the guidance of Swami Sitaramananda, the teachings are explored in depth to help students gain a clearer understanding of essential Vedantic principles.

Self-Inquiry

Students are guided through the profound practice of self-inquiry centered on the fundamental question: “Who am I?” Through this contemplative process, participants are encouraged to look beyond identification with the body and mind in order to discover their deeper and unchanging nature.

Asana and Pranayama

Daily practice of asana and pranayama supports physical well-being, purification of the energy system, and mental clarity, creating a strong foundation for deeper meditation and self-inquiry.

Meditation and Contemplation

Each day includes dedicated periods of meditation and quiet reflection. These practices encourage participants to turn inward, cultivate stillness, and deepen their connection to inner awareness and spiritual understanding.

Important note

Successful completion of the Sivananda Yoga Teachers’ Training Course is a prerequisite for participation in this course.
