A LIFE TRANSFORMING EXPERIENCE

The Sivananda Advanced Yoga Teacher Training Coursee is a 4-week immersion for serious students of yoga to take their knowledge and practice to deeper levels, fostering a profound understanding of sadhana and spiritual life. This 500-hour certification course allows graduates from the Sivananda Yoga TTC to deepen their training and practice through in-depth study of Vedanta philosophy and the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali Maharishi; daily practice of advanced hatha yoga techniques, including asana variations and advanced pranayama; study of Karma Yoga and Bhakti Yoga; anatomy and physiology of the nervous system; and an introduction to the Sanskrit language.

BECOMING A YOGA TEACHER

YOGA ASANAS

The teaching instruction and daily in-depth practice with individual corrections comprises:

• Deepening the practice of the twelve basic asanas • Training in classical advanced variations • Detailed corrections for your students • Postural alignment • Deepening your understanding of Hatha Yoga
PRANAYAMA
• Extended practice of Anuloma Viloma • Practice of advanced Pranayamas • How to use the Bandhas
VEDANTA
The philosophical schools of India • Analogies to approach the Supreme Reality • Study of Vedantic meditation techniques • Explanation of Vedantic Mantras
RAJA YOGA
• Detailed study of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali • The mind, its mysteries and control • In depth study of the eight limbs of Raja Yoga
SANSKRIT
• Learn to write the Devanagari script and the Sanskrit alphabet • Pronunciation and writing of Mantras and hymns
ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY
• Study of the cells, nervous system and the endocrine glands • Its relation to the practice of Asanas, Pranayama and meditation
BHAKTI YOGA
• The nine modes of Bhakti • The five devotional attitudes
KARMA YOGA
• Learn the importance of purifying the mind and heart through the path of selfless service, the foundation of yoga sadhana.

Practical Information

Students enjoy special programs, festivals, concerts and symposiums that are offered during evening satsangs. There is one weekly day off.

*During the day off students are only required to attend morning and evening satsangs and to perform their Karma Yoga duties.

*Attendance at all activities is mandatory.

*Changes in the program may occur.

WHAT TO BRING (COURSE MATERIALS)

The following course materials and items should be brought or else, where noted, purchased on location in our boutique which will be open daily.

Required materials included in course fee and provided at course inauguration:
  • 2 yoga pants, 2 t-shirts
  • TTC Manual

Required materials not included by course fee but available in boutique for purchase:

  • The Complete Illustrated Book of Yoga by Swami Vishnudevananda, Three Rivers Press
  • Yoga – Your Home Practice Companion by Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre, Dorling Kindersley
  • Bhagavad Gita with a commentary by Swami Sivananda, the Divine Life Trust Society
  • Yoga mat
  • Notebook and pen
  • Kriya set (including Neti Pot)
  • Meditation cushion, meditation shawl (recommended)

Also bring:

  • Comfortable as well as warm clothing (covering shoulders and knees)
  • Flashlight
  • Sandals or slippers for indoors (optional)
  • Walking shoes
  • Towel
  • Water Bottle and Travel mug or tumbler (for hot tea)
  • Rain gear
  • Toiletries
  • For tent space only: bring your own tent, bedding, and towels

COURSE PREREQUISITES

Successful completion of the Sivananda Yoga Teachers’ Training Course is a prerequisite for all participants. This course is intensive and sound physical and mental health is required.

CERTIFICATION

The course, together with the 300hr TTC, is officially certified by the Yoga Alliance (based in the United States) to form a 500 hours standard for Registered Yoga Schools (RYS). In acknowledgment, graduates receive the title “Yoga Acharya” from the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres.
